Power & Torque Reference
| Formula | Calculation | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Horsepower | HP = (Torque × RPM) ÷ 5252 | Standard SAE formula |
| Torque | Torque = (HP × 5252) ÷ RPM | Reverse calculation |
| lb-ft to N·m | N·m = lb-ft × 1.356 | Metric conversion |
| Power-to-Weight | (HP ÷ Weight) × 1000 | Performance indicator |
Performance Tips:
- 5252 RPM: Where horsepower and torque curves intersect on dyno charts
- Peak Torque: Usually occurs at lower RPM than peak horsepower
- Off-Road: Low-end torque is more important than peak horsepower
- Power-to-Weight: 200+ HP/1000 lbs = excellent, 100-150 = average
- Gearing: Can multiply effective torque at the wheels
