Power & Torque Reference

Formula Calculation Notes
Horsepower HP = (Torque × RPM) ÷ 5252 Standard SAE formula
Torque Torque = (HP × 5252) ÷ RPM Reverse calculation
lb-ft to N·m N·m = lb-ft × 1.356 Metric conversion
Power-to-Weight (HP ÷ Weight) × 1000 Performance indicator

Performance Tips:

  • 5252 RPM: Where horsepower and torque curves intersect on dyno charts
  • Peak Torque: Usually occurs at lower RPM than peak horsepower
  • Off-Road: Low-end torque is more important than peak horsepower
  • Power-to-Weight: 200+ HP/1000 lbs = excellent, 100-150 = average
  • Gearing: Can multiply effective torque at the wheels
