METALCLOAK VIDEO: MetalCloak vs Currie & Stock TJ Steering | Real-World Testing, Strength & Steering Feel

In this detailed overview, Scott Becker from MetalCloak explains the differences between stock steering systems and upgraded options for Jeep models including TJs, LJs, XJs, MJs, and ZJs. He compares the stock Y-link design, the Currie Currectlync upgrade, and Metal Cloak’s own heavy duty steering system, highlighting the advantages of the latter. Key features like the True Link Tie Rod, Anti-Flop Drag Link, large diameter tubing, and one-ton tie rod ends are covered in depth, showing why MetalCloak’s heavy duty steering system offers superior strength, durability, and performance for lifted vehicles with bigger tires.

MetalCloak heavy duty steering system vs currie currectlync steering vs zj stock steering, t-link vs y-link

[0:00] We've got a couple different steering systems I'm gonna reference today. We've got a stock system off a ZJ. We've got the Currie Currectlync and then the MetalCloak Heavy Duty Steering System. So we're gonna dive into this and I'm gonna show you a couple differences on why our system works so well.

jeep steering, stock zj steering comparison vs metalcloak

[0:15] Alright. To start, let's take a look at the stock steering system. Now this is off a ZJ. So it is actually larger diameter than what comes factory on your TJ or your LJ. So keep that in mind.

jeep stock steering ZJ off-road y-link style, vs metalcloak t-link steering

[0:26] The stock configuration is a Y-link design and you'll see it's split from side to side. This side goes in the knuckle on your passenger side and this side goes in the knuckle on the driver side. The one tie rod end moves up and down.

jeep stock y-link steering, larger tires move while suspension cycles

[0:41] Now what that's doing is it's actually making your tires move in and out. Now at a stock height of the vehicle, it's not that big of a deal because you really don't have that much movement. But moving forward after you lift your vehicle, you've got the bigger tires, the bigger wheels, the height, you start getting more and more separation.

for lifted jeeps and larger tires, stock steering causes more movement of tires during suspension cycle

[0:59] So as you cycle through your suspension, you can really see a lot of movement here.

jeep steering currie currectlync, upgrade over stock, y-link larger diameter, mimicked stock

[1:04] We're gonna take a look at the next steering system that we've got here and it's the Currie Currectlync. This is definitely an upgrade over stock. The stock stuff is really small. So they've basically increased the diameter on this system and kinda basically mimicked the stock steering system.

currie currectlync y-link jeep steering system, causes tie rod to move up and down during suspension cycle, affects steering toe,

[1:22] It's still a Y-design. So you're gonna have that same problem as you cycle through your suspension where the tie rod is moving up and down and it's gonna be affecting your steering toe. It's still gonna give you that uncomfortable unnerving feeling as you cycle through the suspension and just well, it's just a larger diameter stronger stock steering system.

[1:43] Now, we get into the MetalCloak Heavy Duty Steering System. This is a little bit different than what we looked at before. It's not a Y-link design. It's called a T-link.

metalcloak tj heavy duty steering system, true link tie rod, removes movement at knuckle end during suspension cycle

[1:53] And what makes that different is you've got what we call a True Link Tie Rod here. This tie rod is one piece all the way across. And then you've got your drag link attached to that. So this tie rod end which we call the True Link is completely separated. So as you cycle through the suspension, you'll see there is absolutely no movement at the knuckle end.

[2:15] The MetalCloak Heavy Duty Steering System is everything you're gonna want when upgrading your steering system. It's got huge diameter tubing for ultimate strength. We've got one ton custom high clearance steering tie rod ends. We've got the True Link which separates the tie rod from the drag link which gives you zero negative input as it cycles through your suspension.
