METALCLOAK VIDEO: How To Install: MetalCloak JL Wrangler 392 UnderCloak System
This guide walks through installing the MetalCloak UnderCloak Skid Plate System for the JL Wrangler 392, including the muffler skid. It covers pre-install checks, removal of the factory transfer case, motor, and gas tank skid hardware, and step-by-step installation of the transfer case skid, motor skid, gas tank skid, and muffler skid using the provided and factory hardware. Important notes include bracket orientation for the front motor mounts, which hardware to save or discard, and final tightening sequence to ensure the entire underside protection is properly secured.

[00:00] Hey, Scott Becker here with MetalCloak.
[00:04] Today we're going to be installing our UnderCloak System for the 392 JL Wrangler along with the muffler skid.
[00:08] This system is designed to protect the vulnerable underside of your Jeep.
[00:12] Before we do the installation, let's go to metalcloakinstructions.com and print out the instructions and read completely through them.
[00:16] Once we understand what we're getting into and we're certain we have all the necessary tools, we can then start the installation.
[00:20] Now let's go down to the shop and get started.
[00:24] Our Jeep is already in a safe location and ready to be worked on.
[00:28] So we're gonna verify that all the parts listed on the instruction page are accounted for before we start taking apart our Jeep.
[00:32] Okay, it looks like we're good to go.
[00:36] The system will be installed right here underneath the Jeep.
[00:40] Using a 13mm socket, disconnect the two nuts on the stock transfer skid.
[00:44] Save this hardware.
[00:48] Using an 18mm socket, disconnect the four bolts on the stock transfer skid.
[00:52] This hardware will not be reused.
[00:56] Using an 18mm socket, disconnect the three bolts on the stock transmission skid.
[01:00] This hardware will not be reused.
[01:04] Using an 18mm socket, disconnect the three bolts on the stock gas tank skid at the frame.
[01:08] Save this hardware.
[01:12] Disconnect the stock gas tank skid bolt from the crossmember using an 18mm socket.
[01:16] This hardware will not be reused.
[01:20] Using the provided hardware and an 8mm Allen wrench, install the transfer case skid plate snug.
[01:24] Do not fully tighten.
[01:28] Fully tighten both bolts at the frame using an 8mm Allen wrench.
[01:32] Disconnect the three counter sunk bolts on the transfer case skid plate on the crossmember in preparation for installing the motor skid plate.
[01:36] Important note, when installing the front motor mount brackets, the longer bracket is for the driver's side and the shorter bracket is for the passenger side.
[01:40] Using a 13mm socket, remove the motor mount bolt furthest to the rear on the driver and passenger side.
[01:44] And using the provided 17mm hardware, install the bolt coming from the top down on both sides.
[01:48] Using an 8mm Allen wrench, attach the motor skid plate to the transfer case skid plate using the counter sunk bolts.
[01:52] Install the motor skid hanger to the bottom of the bolt previously installed and hand tighten the provided nut for both driver and passenger sides.
[01:56] Install the front brackets to the motor skid hand tight.
[02:00] Make sure the bracket is installed on the inside of the skid plate.
[02:04] Using an 8mm Allen wrench, tighten the motor skid transfer case skid bolts, attach the gas tank skid plate to the frame with the stock hardware.
[02:08] Using an 8mm Allen wrench attach the gas tank skid plate to the crossmember.
[02:12] Using an 8mm Allen wrench attach the gas tank skid to the transfer case skid.
[02:16] Using a 13mm socket, reinstall the two stock nuts from the stock transfer skid.
[02:20] Using an 18mm socket, remove the bolt on the inner side of the gas tank in preparation for the gas tank hanger installation.
[02:24] Using the factory bolt, loosely install the provided gas tank hanger.
[02:28] Install the gas tank hanger on the inside of the skid plate using the provided 7/32" flathead Allen bolt and 9/16" nut.
[02:32] Fully tighten the hanger hardware.
[02:36] Using an 18mm socket, disconnect the stock gas tank skid rear frame bolt.
[02:40] Save the hardware.
[02:44] Using the stock bolt, install the rear gas tank skid bracket to the frame hand tight.
[02:48] Using the provided bolt, install the gas tank skid bracket to the gas tank skid and tighten with a 9/16" socket and wrench.
[02:52] Make sure all UnderCloak Skid Plate hardware is fully tightened.
[02:56] Using a 16mm socket, remove the factory bolts from the bumper.
[03:00] Remove the factory bolts from the rear sway bar using a 15mm socket.
[03:04] Save this hardware.
[03:08] Place the muffler skid hangers between the sway bar and the sway bar mounts and loosely reinstall the factory hardware.
[03:12] Align the muffler skid to the factory bumper holes and loosely install the provided 18mm hardware.
[03:16] Attach the muffler skid plate to the hangers using the 9/16" bolt and nuts.
[03:20] Tighten all muffler skid hardware.
[03:24] Now that we're done, all that's left to do is to go out and enjoy your Jeep.
