Metalcloak IQ: True Dual Rate Coil Spring Identifier

Coil Identification Reference

Every MetalCloak True Dual Rate™ coil carries an SS number stamped on the side of the spring. Find that number below to identify the platform, the position it belongs in, and the lift height it was built to deliver.

How to use this guide: Read the SS number off the side of the coil, then find it in the table for your platform. If you already know the platform, jump straight to it using the links below.

SS number vs. product SKU: These are not the SKUs you order on our website. A website SKU is a complete kit, normally a pair of coils plus any hardware it needs. The SS number identifies one individual coil.

Same coil, different lift: Vehicle weight changes what a coil delivers. On JK and JL, the same coil sits one inch taller under a 2-Door than under a 4-Door. Always read the column that matches your rig.

Reading the Numbers

  • Front coils run SS-21xx, rear coils run SS-20xx. This holds across JK, JL, and JT. The TJ / LJ range is the exception, where both positions live in the SS-20xx series.
  • Four SS numbers appear on two platforms. SS-2160, SS-2164, SS-2168, and SS-2176 are shared between the JL and the JT. Under a Gladiator, each one rates a full inch lower than it does under a 4-Door JL, because the truck carries more weight up front.
  • No rear coil is shared between the JL and the JT. If you have a rear coil in hand and the number is in the SS-2072 to SS-2078 range, it is a Gladiator coil.
  • The 5.5" coils are 4-Door only. SS-2140 and SS-2041 on the JK, SS-2176 and SS-2077 on the JL. There is no 2-Door equivalent.
  • The number tells you the coil, not the kit. A matched pair of SS numbers plus the shocks, hardware, and geometry correction is what makes up the system. Use the SS number to identify what is on the rig, then shop by vehicle to find the kit it came from.

Number Worn Off? Not Sure What You Have?

If the stamp is unreadable or your coil is not listed here, our team can identify it from photos, ride height, and a few measurements.
